Mathews County offers so many activities and ways to enjoy the beauty of our beloved waters, wildlife, and rich history:
*Cycling: with no stoplights, low traffic, and flat roads, explore the county via several mapped routes that take you through beautiful country roads as well as historic and natural sites. We have some bikes available, or bring your own!
*Kayaking: One of the most extensive kayak trail systems on the Eastern Coast, the Blueways Water Trails offer over 90 miles of mapped routes. Visit our friends at Bay Trails Outfitters, www.baytrails.com for guided tours, rentals, and instruction. They will deliver kayaks to our Inn or bring your own! We are able to provide a launch from our property regardless of tide.
*Boat tours: Enjoy Mathews by water, and view beautiful old homes, birds, dolphin, and lighthouses such as New Point Comfort Light, (the 3rd oldest in the Chesapeake Bay), and Wolftrap Light. For motor tours, please contact Captain Court at www.baywaterexcursions.com , and for day and sunset sailing cruises, contact Capt. Johnny at www.mobjacksailing.com
*Fishing: Fish or crab right off of our own dock, or arrange for a special charter through Chris at www.bayflyfishing.com If you have a smaller craft, you can also bring your boat and launch from our own boat ramp, or boat in and tie up at our private dock.
*Paddleboarding: Try the hottest new sport that is perfect for our area. You go as fast as on a kayak, but with less strain on your body, and see a lot more by standing up. For lessons, tours and renting gear, call Macky Hall or Steve Casper at Chesapeake Boardsports , 804-384-3534, or visit www.chesapeakeboardsports.com
*Bird Watching: Enjoy trying to spot over 190 species of birds including Great Blue Herons, Osprey, Bald Eagles, and Egrets right from our property, or along Bethel Beach and Haven Beach Nature preserves.
*Sight Seeing and Shopping: Explore several of the many charming small towns each with it’s own unique character, galleries, restaurants, museums, and some wineries. We are also within an hour drive of the Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
